CERV I was a purpose-built single-seater that Zora envisioned as a test bed for all of the best race car theory of the late 1950s. He would have loved to race it at Indianapolis, but its 377 cubic inch engine would have to be destroked to conform to the 205 cubic-inch limit for small blocks then in force at the Brickyard. Had it been eligible, however, the car would have caused quite a stir since Indy was still the province of front-engined roadsters; Jack Brabham’s revolutionary rear-engined Cooper Climax didn’t appear until 1961.
