John Frankenheimer

John Michael Frankenheimer (February 19, 1930 – July 6, 2002) was an American film director as well as an amateur race driver. Highly acclaimed for the landmark 1962 films Birdman of Alcatraz and The Manchurian Candidate, John Frankenheimer is probably best known in the motorsports film world for his seminal 1966 racing film Grand Prix. John Frankenheimer returned to filming fast cars in another movie often seen at track events, 1998's Ronin, which featured some of the more memorable car chase scenes in recent film history. John Frankenheimer passed away in 2002 at the age of 72.
